Tipping is not a given in Bali as it is in the US. It's a reward for service - so if you get good service then give a tip that the person providing the service gets - ie, leave the $ on the table in a restaurant or hand it to the waiter/ress rather than giving it to the cashier. The Balinese are doing it tough right now so tipping is a good thing:) I always "round up" to the next 10,000rp at least for taxis. As for hotel people, it's good to give money gift when you leave. Tipping is not obligatory so it is seen as a gift for good service, as it should be. My son is in America now and having trouble adjusting to tipping for no reason LOL.
