We used PREMIER OPTICS located in the Kuching Plaza. Address No 1.38 First Floor,Kuching Plaza. Ph: 082 240160. They are part of the Jee Kwong Optical group who also have more outlets in Kuching and Sarawak. However, this outlet is in the city and the most "central" of their shops I think.

I already had my script with me, but hubby didn't. It took only a short time for them to test his eyes with all the latest machinery, and the glasses were ready a couple of days later, except for one of my pairs which took longer because I am a -7.75! I was especially pleased with my prescription sunglasses which cost me less than a third of what I was quoted here.

Hope this helps.

I have been to Kuching twice and love this city. We have local friends there (they use this optometrist too), so usually get to places that the tourists don't know about or wouldn't eat at. Good shopping too with handbags, manmade material shoes (leather is expensive here), and tee shirts. Tell your Mum to go to the Satok Road Sunday markets as there's good photo opportunities as well as eating "oddities" and various items for sale.

Last time we were in Kuching, we were about 5 minutes behind the police who were "raiding" various outlets for pirated DVD's! It was quite funny really, as each suburban shopping centre we pulled into in search of DVD's from our list, the paddywagon drove out of!

I also did a 2 day overnight tour to a Longhouse situated about 4.5 hrs drive and 45 mins up a river away from Kuching. It was very interesting, especially drinking rice wine with the tribal chief whilst being entertained with dancing, and sleeping in the longhouse with no electricity, and it was well worth the money. It was the wet season, so only 3 of us on the tour, and the river was in flood which was a bit scary. But what memories I have!!
