First tried Pantai in 1997 and didn't think much of the food back then..
Went back in August this year having heard and read that the food was good...I can't say it has improved (although others might disagree)...view's nice though...
Also went to Ma Joly's (old Sandy Phala) nearby..
Ma Joly is more expensive. Cost us around AUS$24 for 2 entrees & 2 mains with crusty home baked bread, which is cheap by Oz standards. You can also take your own wine by prior arrangement with the management for about 40,000Rp corkage.
Food was excellent and the view is just as spectacular, but in much nicer surroundings (it's about 50 metres north of Pantai)
No offence but to me Pantai is more of a Bintang on the beach place..with families and kids.
If it's a romantic spot you're after Ma Joly beats Pantai hands down..
Go during the day and get them to take you for a tour of their accommodation..pricey but impressive..nothing like the old Sandy Phala where you used to be able to get a room for US$25 a night!(
Looked to me like they were struggling to fill their rooms so could be a bargain to be had... I was there in August when surrounding hotels were mostly full..
