Unfortunately I've noticed that most Baliese staff be it at a hotel/resort/restaurant are not assertive when it comes to enforcing "rules" of any kind, even serious breeches of safety. We have seen some potentially dangerous behaviours from "adults" go seemingly unnoticed. We watched adult males throwing a hard ball to each other in a small crowded pool (where mothers had babies under a year old) competeing as to who could throw it the hardest. I commented to my husband that if they were 3 yr olds I'd pick them up and place them in their rooms till they'd figured out how to behave properly. My husband rose from chair and relayed this to the offenders. Who did stop I might add. But many times the Balinese staff seem to be either too shy and lacking the assertive skills to deal with the situation. They obviously may not have these types of situations addressed in their training. I've concluded that it's best to take these matters up with the appropriate manager and back it up in writing even if that's not till you get home. I'm sure many posters have witnessed many incidents go unchecked over there - I guess litigation hasn't hit Bali yet like it has here!
