Just thought I would post a couple of time saving tips for when you return back from Bali into Australia and clear customs and quarantine....and a couple of other tips.....sorry if this is repetitive and been told before but I thought if it helps just one person then its worth posting...
* Pack all your wood, food and declarable items into one bag as then they may only look at this bag and xray the other...if they are in all bags you will have to open the lot
* Make sure you have filled out your immigration/declaration card before presenting to Customs
* Make sure you stick to your alcohol and cig limits as change in legislation as of Feb and once you go over (even by a small bintang) you lose concession and pay on the lot...very expensive duty on alc and cigs...and no its not true if you have open bottle not counted.
* You can claim GST back on items purchased prior to 30 days of travel as long as you show them and the invoice is more than $300 on the one invoice..they wont add invoices together. This is a great way to get that extra bargain....eg..digital cameras...shop around and get the best possible price as long as over $300 you will then get another 10% back.....much cheaper than just rocking up and buying at duty free shop at airport as they often sell recommended retail price.
* Take sunscreen to bali as cheaper here
* If you celebrating something special..eg birthday, wedding, etc use your Indonesian alcohol concession to take in champagne as champers very expensive in Bali
* Dont take many shoes as the ones you do take will probably get recked and you can buy heaps over there fraction of the cost
* Do read Bali Travel Forum BEFORE you go
* Do post a JBR when you get back
There is my 2 cents worth :)
