I was in Bali in 1975 - can remember walking from the airport through the palm trees. Our losmen/home stay was just off what is now Kuta square. My wife and I were in bali July 04 - what differnce.
If you want to get an idea of what Bali was then try going to Lembongan (up the losmen end!!) or Padang Bai
