Just had a second thought on what I said earlier...I don't know if you're referring to a hand crafted piece from Toraja (Sulawesi) but you should try to compare pieces over the internet (key words used might not include laquer - in any form). There should be pictures on the net of something similar to what you are looking for. Once you have found the key descriptive words to describe the item, then you should be able to find the history and price range of the item (use google).
