Only been to Queensland once, but it was a ripper. I dobbed my wife in to Who Dares Wins. They flew us to Coolangatta from Perth and put us up at a good hotel in Burleigh Heads, all expenses paid. Supposed to pick us up early next morning and take us to the "dare", but they were running late. Contacted Mike Whitney, who was at the same hotel, but he reckoned he knew nothing. [Think he may have had a few drinks the night before.]

The producer and his offsider turned up late looking all flustered and told us something had gone wrong and it wouldn't be safe to go ahead. We weren't sorry, because we'd got the idea from something that was said that the dare was bungy jump from a helicopter. Kathy reckoned she wouldn't go home and let her grandchildren think she wasn't up to doing whatever, but that wasn't exactly on Kathy's list of "must-do" activities. Anyway, the producer apologised to us for our disappointment and gave us a fist full of money and told us to stay and have a good time.

Kathy was very beautiful, very talented and very outgoing. She just seemed to get noticed and picked to be involved with everything. She sang German songs at the Bavarian restaurant, danced with the belly dancer at the Lebanese restaurant, won the karaoke contest on the cruise with a memorable song and dance version of The Locomotion and walked along the skyscraper ledge at Movieworld with the cops, the fire brigade and the screaming crowd in the street far below.

Perhaps the most memorable evening was our visit to the strip club. The spruiker on the door had assured us that it was a respectable show suitable for people of our vintage, so in we went. The place was full of Japanese tourists. They were all inscrutable [if that's the word]. I shouted out, "What a lot of dead-heads", but it didn't do any good. Anyway, we cheered, clapped, thumped the table and stamped our feet and at least we got the 6 young Japanese guys on our table doing the same. Being as we were the only people in there showing any enthusiasm, the compere invited Kathy up to "assist" the male stripper and then he got me up to help the girls. I was enjoying myself so much that I didn't want to sit down again, so he told me that if I didn't sit down I'd have to be in the show. So I asked him how much he paid.

It's coming up to 3 years since I lost Kathy. I'm very fortunate, I have a lovely lady friend, but I don't forget.
