Poppy was an Indonesian girl in Kuta in the very early 70s.
Her boyfriend from California financed her to set up a drinks stall in sandy track going down to Kuta Beach.
The drinks stall became Poppies Warung and later Poppies Restaurant. The sandy track became known as Poppies Lane. Another track ran parallel to Poppies Lane and became known as Poppies Lane 2.
I used to walk down those tracks to the beach past cows with wooden bells around their necks and hearing wind chimes high up in the coconut palms.
It will always be Poppies Lane to me.
