On reflection, he may have started the meter well before we got in. I noted it was Rp7000 when I sat down. I also noted the meter was clear of the panel and had black tape across the top of the meter, not laid flat. The legal meter stays on Rp7000 for 950m. I measured the total distance on Google maps as at around 400m.
In the whole time we have been in Bali, we have paid the Rp30,000 minimum when the meter was around Rp10k. Sometimes we have paid double the meter if we considered they needed it.
Yes, we know you should use Bluebird....but they were particularly scarce and my wife was starting to stress from the heat.
