Was not quite 2 years ago.
I'd promised to go to my cousins wedding and then she decided to get married in Bali. Well, I never wanted to go to Bali. Just wasn't interested, so you can image my initial response. Well, I calmed down and decided to go for her and have never looked back.
Having been to the Philippines many years back, there was no culture shock for me, but my wife had never left Australia before and her first shock was the traffic, but she got over it. Didn't really enjoy the touristy stuff. I wanted to see the real Bali and the real people.
In the 18 months since, we have had 2 further trips. Made some wonderful and close friends and were invited to and got to experience a Hindu wedding of a young girl has has become like a daughter to us.
With 2 more trips booked for later this year, it is clear that Bali and it's people have captured a large chunk of our hearts.
