I take my mother to Bali every year and always request a wheelchair from check in to plane there and back. We always experience the same as you, boarding gates furthest away. If exiting on the tarmac they take Sylv down by lift from the plane. We have actually found that Denpasar airport is more experienced at this than Tulla (Melb). A couple of trips back we waited over an hour at check in for Sylv's booked wheelchair, needed to get to gate so had to walk it. Got thru to International customs quite a few overweight people in wheelchairs, Sylv approached one to ask it she booked it, no just asked at check in and they gave her one, she said no need to book she does it all the time, not good enough Tulla. Once we were in international doors there was no way of getting a chair, bad start but we got thru it. There are lifts all through the airport, has to be for disabled travellers.
