The travel time to Negara is about 3 hours. I would suggest you hire a driver for the day. When we go to Negara we leave early in the morning - about 7am. We stop at Medawi beach for a toilet break and coffee - there is a resort there. The scenery is spectacular, the traffic in parts can be hair-raising. Negara is a good size place. They have a Hardy's supermarket and a new multi level market.
I maybe biased (going by my user name) but just to see this part of Bali is well worth it if you have the time.
