In the spirit of increasing the postings, I'll add a bit to this thread.

Actually for me, it is not so much anything dramatic for a night that stands out, but more the magic of a Bali evening. My wife and I have visited each year for 18 years.

A perfect evening (and we've done this so many times) would be meeting up at a beach bar after I have been reading and dozing by the pool and my wife has been shopping. Not a crowded beach bar, just the two of us on bean bags with ice cold Binnies watching the sun go down and life go past. Sort of being in a reality TV show, but not having to do anything.

When the sun has dropped below the horizon, we would wander to a restaurant. preferably a good one rather than a noisy bar with band a slap down cheap feed. I'm thinking Mozarella by the beach. The meals are very good and service is attentive, but we have never found it intrusive.

After the meal a wander along the road beside the beach and then a noisy bar with band. Maybe two, depends on the quality of the music.

Heading back to the hotel would depend entirely on sobriety. Either a walk, a ride on the back of a bike or a taxi.

A final Binnie and a chance to sit outside the hotel room and think about absolutely nothing.

I've reached the age where I don't want to have too much beer, mainly because I don't need to get psst and also hang overs take the edge off the morning.

So there is a night that stands out. But hopefully not just one, but many on each visit.

Reading that again, I realise what a boring old fart I have become. But a happy boring old fart.
