for me. That location is reasonable sparse on shops, but has plenty of different choices of restaurants/warungs and lodging. I liked Puri Wirata as it is run by an European management team, has a decent restaurant and also has a dive shop with school as part of the operation and is reasonably priced. When I was there last (19 months ago), Tom was in charge of Diving and Berger of the overall operation.
My favorite dive spot is undoubtedly JEMELUK Bay - a short car ride from the resort. As most spots in this area, you dive off the beach within 10 to 30 meters. Go left and you enjoy a gentle slope with lots of critters. Go right and you will enjoy one of the best walls with a good variety of fish anc corals.
Their 'house reef' is Bunutan reef. Not far away is the Japanese ship wreck and other reefs. A bit further away, quick car trip as almost no traffic, is Tulamben with its dive and snorkel locations, including the famous SS Liberty wreck - usually the busiest place in this area.
