done this 3 x times now as I always take newbies with me because I know they are going to love it. You get picked up at 8.30am, drive up toward Jimbaren, stop at the local food market where the different produce is explained to you, then a short drive further up the hill to the family compound. Once inside, you sit under a Bali hut and you are taught how to make the offering baskets that you see everywhere on the streets in Bali, then you decorate them. Then you learn how to plaite rice baskets out of a leaf that will be used to cook the rice you'll be eating later. Then into the kitchen where it is hands on (some prefer to just watch) with aprons & towels supplied. You usually make 3 x soup, 4 x main & 2 x dessert, stopping in between to sit down at a dining table to eat...yum yum. When I went in January, we were back at our hotel by approx 2.30pm. The cost was $ 85.00 AUD p/person, and you get a recipe book with all the dishes you've cooked to take home. I'd recommend it to everyone, and I'll probably do it again if I have anymore Bali newbies with me next time.
