Well....different for me anyway.
I have managed to drag myself away from the considerable charm and magnetism of wonderful Kuta.
This was not entirely by choice, but I had committed to show others some different parts of the Island that I am familiar with, so with trusty Avanza loaded complete with kitchen sink, it was off to Amlapura to find the spectacular back road, past the beautifully restored water palace, and then through the winding and spectacular road through to the string of coastal villages that make up Amed.
On this occasion, the home from home was Kembali Beach Bungalows, at the northern end of the strip.
On a typical volcanic stony beach, the snorkelling off shore is good and accommodation would suit most people I think.
Dinners were at "The Grill" and at a beach located place just 50 meters from Kembali (Look north for lamps on tables)
This area is dominated by Mt Agung, and elevated views of the colourful boats along the sheltered bays are further enhanced by the sight of Mount Rijani on Lombok as the sun rises in the morning.
Loaded up with cheap local salt, it was off North to Singaraja and then through to Lovina and Lovina Beach Villas in Jl. Kartika.
Again, accommodation to suit most with private pool surrounded by three large bedrooms and open plan living.
One meal was ordinary, but I did find a place called "The Bakery" in a back street that was excellent.
A side trip was west to Pemuteran to look again at the coral regeneration project.
The use of low voltage injection seems to be having a very positive effect on the growth of coral and subsequent attraction of fish.
The road back to the south was from Sererit, through to Antosari, Tabanan and back into "our area" via Jl. Raya Kerobokan.
Just a quick local observation re the sale of liquor legislation.
Circle Ks have all?? put beer etc into fridges with glass obscured by large stickers stating a minimum age for purchase (21)
This is clearly an attempt to avoid being deprived of the right to sell when the new legislation is implemented.
Time will tell how all this pans out.
