AA sometimes comes up with products such as the Optiontown upgrade product and the AA ASEAN Air Pass which are incredibly complex, yet offer no real benefit to passengers. These products are so complex, that AA staff deny that these products even exist, rather than get their heads around the complexities.
The AA press release promised benefits for travelers from non-ASEAN countries with the AA ASEAN Air Pass, yet my careful reading of the AA website reveals no benefits for passengers from non-ASEAN countries.
A visitor from Australia to Bali travels two sectors to and from his/her home city. Firstly, these sectors are excluded from the ASEAN Air Pass. Secondly, a visitor from Australia has to repeat a sector to leave and return home, yet repeating sectors is forbidden under the ASEAN Air Pass rules.
I will pass on the ASEAN Air Pass.
