Sounds like you had a great time. A few years ago I too was not keen on Bali due to the Aussie media. But when a friend offered me a free flight I thought I might give it a go. I don't think she realised the love affair that would follow. I brave been 4 times in 2 years now and I won't be returning for another 12mths now because of other travel commitments, and that makes me sad.
I was reading the Jakarta post when I was over in May last year. At the time the Australian media was making a lot of noise about Tony Abbott cancelling a trip to visit the Indonesian president. This was in Aussie news for days. The Jakarta post had a 1/4 page article commenting on the issue, but their take was that they did not understand why the media was turning what was apparently a routine invitation to an event into a big deal. According to the article leaders of foreign countries are constantly invited to other countries events with the expectation that the majority will not be attended as they are busy performing the duties they are there to do. It was an eye opener to me that our media do us no favours in the area of international relations and that a slow news week can see insignificant issues filled out with agendas.
Your advise should be printed on the bottom of all tickets to Indonesia, it's spot on.
