Is this an urban myth or something you have seen yourself, there isn't exactly a lot of room in the cockpit for an extra to be changing places as and when needed to.
The closest I have come to seeing anything similar to this story, and I am sure it is a money scam, is sitting on the beach at Legian on MANY evenings per year is if you are watching/looking at the airport you will see, sometimes up to 4 times per week, mainly around 5 pm an aircraft, which predominantly is Garuda, will slowly taxi out nearly to the end of the taxiway then swing right around and go back again.
Now I cannot think of any legitimate reason for this happening and qualified pilots do not need to practice and Bali airport is not a training facility so that could be a pay to drive a plane scam.
