Most people go crazy on the market shopping their first time. In reality you won't wear most of it once you return home and clothing items need very careful washing if they are going to last long. Not saying don't buy anything as its all part of the fun but just don't go over board.
Never tell taxi drivers or sellers it is your first trip. They will ask, so just say yes been before but lots has changed (as it does every year) if you admit to being a newbie you put $ target on your forehead.
Matahari and bagus watches in kuta square are good places for cheap but better quality shoes, bags, clothes (esp kids) and make up (genuine but much cheaper than home). I personally don't like kuta but sometimes do a quick dash to kuta square if I want to restock my make up supplies and often grab a few other bits and pieces.
Seminyak has much nicer and original clothing in boutiques but wouldn't call it bargain shopping. You might find some cheaper pieces but generally just under oz prices.
You can also get a driver to take you o the outlets on sunset rd. mainly surf and sport and very hit and miss whether they have any good stuff.
With market bargaining, know a price you are happy to pay and stick to it. It can be quite overwhelming so just buy one thing at a time to start so you don't get confused. If they won't come down to your price, walk away. Chances are they will say ok ok. If they let you walk away you know your price was too low but you will find the same item in most places so you know roughly what to start at next time,
