Money Changers in Bali operate at the retail level. When the Bank of Indonesia (the wholesaler) is closed such as on weekends, the spread between the buy and sell rate widens.
The best rates are normally found during the opening hours of the Bank of Indonesia.
The Bank of Indonesia also does not accept foreign bank notes with tears or writing on them.
