BUT if it was my child I would not take the gamble anyway. The collar is not a certainty of injection only that it is wearing a collar that indicates inoculation. Also I would not in your shoes have believed anyone who said "Oh no don't worry he doesn't have rabies." Even though it is almost certainly true.

I am not being a panic merchant and the chances are so remote as to be NEARLY none-existent BUT in the unlikely event that somebody is bitten by a rabid dog who is pre-symptonmatic (sp?) and wander off happily oblivious when they get sick they are dead as simple as that. Actually of course BIMC is famous for charging like a wounded bull but locals who get bitten and go to local clinics are also told to get the injections so money is not the only reason to recommend this course of action.
