In February of 2012 my wife and I ordered a teak daybed from Ekstra Furniture in Seminyak. The actual address is Jalan Raya Kerobokan 142 ABC, Kerobokan Kuta 80361. The cost of the daybed was RP 2,500,000 which is about $250 US Dollars. We left a deposit of RP 1,300,000 which is about US $ 130 and the owner Mauricio agreed to put the daybed aside in the store and we agree to pick it up later in the year when our container was going to be ready to ship. We also needed to find a source for teak flooring and stairs for our new house and the owner Mauricio said he could make this as well. He gave us a sample of the teak flooring that he could make and we brought this sample home to show to our builder along with another sample from a company that specializes in flooring. In addition to the sample of flooring the owner had made a sample stair thread which we did not ask him to make. The stair thread was too big to bring home as a sample. The owner said that they samples had cost him about $50 to make. We returned to Bali in June of 2012 and told the owner of Ekstra that we had shown the samples of flooring to our builder and he had recommended that we purchase the flooring from the other company which had better tongue and groove features and had a better humitiy content. The owner was angry that we had chosen to order our flooring from another company and seemed insulted. We offered to pay for the stair sample he had made even though we had never requested he make it in the first place. He was clearly unhappy about the flooring but he did not intimate that our ordering the flooring from another company would jeopardize the daybed we had purchased. We returned to Bali in October of 2012 and I went back to the shop to pay the balance for our daybed and have our cargo company pick it up. The owner Mauricio informed me that our daybed had been sold. He refused to refund my deposit and claimed that he had stored the daybed for too long and tough luck. I told to him that he had no problem contacting me by e-mail when he wanted my business for the flooring and that if he felt that he had stored the daypack long enough he could have let me know by e-mail and that I would have happily paid the balance and had the daybed picked up. He said tough luck and get our of my store. He was incredibly angry and abusive and seemed to take great glee in stealing our deposit as if that were a way to get back at us for purchasing our flooring from another company. Rather than take this to the tourist police and deal with further confrontation with this dishonest store owner, we decided to buy a daybed from another store that was already making other items for us. However as a warning to others I wanted to post this so others can avoid getting ripped off as we did.
