Hi Lou, depends what you call cheap, to me cheap is around $40 to $60 but friends of mine consider $200 to be cheap. Anyway I can recommend the Grand Istana Rama, on Agoda it's around $43 for a superior room in Dec. It's on the beach, very close to the Beachwalk mall and close to cheap restaurants and shopping. I stay here when I go with my sister or on my own as I feel quite safe here.
Also another one we use a lot is Rama Beach in Tuban. It's a bit further out, but we always stay here in December as it's close to the airport and the traffic in Dec is crazy so no problems getting to airport. And it's quiet and away from all the crazy traffic! The rooms on agoda are $85. It's our favourite hotel and we always get upgraded when we check in.
