We have been going to Bali since 1997 and you just have to embrace change. Some things have improved greatly ie the standard of restaurants but Kuta to Seminyak is almost unrecognisable. Locals in Ubud are even petitioning to stop a McDonalds being built there !!
We now try to avoid the crowds and traffic jams etc of the main tourist spots and spend our holidays on the north east coast in Tembok at Poinciana Resort. There are many places you can experience the real Bali in tranquil surroundings with great food and enjoy true Balinese hospitality but you have to get off the beaten track.
