First timer- Accomodation recommendation

We have never been to Bali before and are looking for recommendations on good family accommodation and when the best time to travel is.

Basically we are a family of 4 (2 adults, one 4 year old and one 2 year old) who would be heading over for about a week with a budget around $100 per night with some flexibility.

No real preference around location but have been told outside of Kuta is best.

Any recommendations would be welcome or advice on other aspects including what to see.
