I did this climb with my daughters. Read all the reviews that said was no need to be fit etc etc. Well wish I was fitter. I wanted to give up half way up ( as I an somewhere in my forties) we went with Bali Eco group and they have a few guides. Ketut my guide said that he would get me to the top to watch the sunrise with my daughters and he did. We were behind everyone but as he said it did not matter how fast you got to the top as long as you got there ton watch the sunrise.
It was one of the best things I have done with my girls but I won't do it again .
