First of all, I work for Virgin in the Guest Contact Centre. I get calls of this nature ALL the time.
It is an extremely simple matter to have the first name changed from Rick to Richard, as to me, it is obviously a shortened version of Richard.
Call the GCC, talk to just about ANYONE there and they will change the name for you free of charge. If they don't want to, ask to speak to someone in PAD and I can guarantee that they will do it for you.
There is NO need to buy a new ticket or pay any sort of fee (even though name changes aren't ever permitted on Saver fares and I assume that's what you have).
