I stayed at Mades Homestay in Sampalan, Nusa Penida last month for Rp 150,000 per night.
I spent two nights there visiting a huge cave full of Hindu shrines and Crystal Beach.
Nusa Penida is well off the beaten track. When i spoke to people in Bahasa Indonesia, they replied in Balinese, as they are not used to speaking to non-Balinese!
I met only three other tourists on Nusa Penida.
The Gilis might be better for you, if you like a more touristy place.
