However they will probably say up to you.
I have gone the traditional route before but that was for my own special birthday celebration. Just something I wanted to do and I did look like a white honky in costume.
My Balinese girlfriend came shopping with me down "material street" in Denpassar. We got the Kabaya ( Spelling?) and sarong material had that made up by a tailor. I got a top from Aussie for under the Kabaya. Under waist garment from Denpassar market ( darn hard to find a large size). I wanted the sarong to be hemmed which the remark came "this for Balinese look funny". For me without it being hemmed was funny"

I am more comfortable obviously in my own clothing but would opt for at least a sarong.
