For those of you who remember Filo, I hope this brings back some good memories and a smile to your face. As 'Herself' (which I prefer to Higher Authority') I found it too difficult to post on BTF after he departed nearly 4 years ago . Now that his estate is settled and hopefully the family turmoil over. I would like to share what Herself has been doing in Bali all this time. Firstly I went to Bali in June 2009, with a very close girlfirend and we held a cereomony for Filo on the beach at Tuban outside our favourite restaurant, The Pantai. Please go if you have never been It is near the Holiday Inn in Jln Wana Segara.
Our wonderful driver friend Made Dera, organised the priest and the marquee and our close friend Andrew's wife Kadek, arranged flowers and offerings for me. The day was perfect. Blue skies, gentle breezes and ideal temperature. The blessings took place with nearly all our friends in Bali present. I cried lots and my girlfriend kept the tissues coming. One of our beach friends, Adi, oraganised her husband (she is very good at that) to have his Jung Kung avaialbe to take the offerings out to sea. So after the bell ringing and blesings had stopped, down we all trooped to the the water's edge. No husband. Well tourists rocked up and wanted to go for a boat ride. It is Bali so that's what happened. We waited while Adi paced up and down saying rude things until her husband finally landed. I'm sure Bill was more than amused at us all looking like seagulls waiting for fish on the beach.
The women who took care of us on the beach, as we did them, and Made's wife all came with me. We stopped the boat and I wondered what to say. Didn't have to worry. Adi had it sorted. 'Papa you no go home to Australia. You stay in Bali forever" I can tell you with confidence, he has. We let the offerings go. A beer, water (what for?), rice, flowers, the ugly swimsuit and oh yes the orange 'Boss" hat. I had great difficulty in letting that go, but Lisa helped. We cried, then laughed and went back. Lunch was Nasi Goreng followed by a delicious chocolate mudcake given generously by the Holiday Inn and inscribed 'Filo, Papa Bill, Sampai Jumpa'
Well a bit of a late JBR but there's more, later.
