when it comes to grammar and the newsreaders, journalists etc. often upset my sensibilities, but I have to say that here in the Wild Wild West I have been very happy with the education the grandees have received in government primary and high schools.
As has always been the case I suspect. The 2 that have worked hard are getting excellent results and this has included tables and spelling lists. The one who applied herself less enthusiastically not so excellent but still good literacy and numeracty. The one who applied himself to not applying himself had poor academic results.
I think whinging about the "younger generation" or "the youth of today" is just a sign of old age and the idea that "our" generation was so much better than "the young people of today" is common to every older generation. Our parents thought we were lacking compared to thems too.
You can't generalise about an entire generation or any demographic really or at least not with any accuracy (and that includes teachers). Let's hear it for the younger generation!
