I had a hell of a time convincing my GP to prescribe Hep/Typhoid injections to go to Bali. He just had it in his head that going to Bali means that I sit around a five star resort sipping cocktails and really didn't need any sort of immunisations. I had to convince him that I do "go local" with food and do go outside of the tourist areas and would rather be safe than sorry.
Finally he agreed, but not all GPs are travel experts. They tend to know a little about a lot of different things, but are not specialists.
