The Amazon kindle is great. I would get the Kindle touch but would not bother with 3G, you can still download with wifi. There are always free downloads and specials on 10000,s of books. It's a little wonder :)
You might like to also look at the iPad as they have improved their retina display but I'm not sure how much books are with Apple.
