Hi all,

'bout time i posted something, before it slips away into yonder!.

Myself, wife and the 2 boys, now 7 and 8yrs old set off from Perth
for our 5th "winter" holiday in a row in Bali, for 16 nights from July
5th to the 21st.

3 nights Sanur, 7 nights Gili Trawangan and 6 nights Legian.

Each trip we try to check out "new" places to visit/stay and on this time it was Sanur and Gili T, then a familiar return to Legian and Seminyak.

An uneventful journey to Bali on the AA early flight found us checking in at the Griya Santrian by 9.30am, unfortunately our room wasn't ready, so we did the money change/Hardy's "essentials stop and a bite to eat before returning to the hotel and check in.

Now tell me, are we the only one's that whenever we check into decent sized hotels, i.e: in the past, Bali Garden (twice),Jayakarta and now the Griya, we seem to get the, shall we say, crappy rooms....

Now we know that on our booking, all paid for in full some 7+ months before, stated "request for interconnecting rooms -not gaurenteed".
So we were shown to our rooms, upstairs, low balcony and not interconnecting. my wife was having none of it...sorry was the answer, but we cannot help, she stood here ground and eventually we got two ground floor rooms TWICE the size of the upstairs one's and also in much better nick, interconnecting and still in the same block.

The people who ended up with the upstairs rooms were all adults and i guess were in no real need to have interconnecting rooms......

go figure.........and as i said, not for the first time.

Ahhh, i feel better now i got that off my chest ;o)

Back to the good bits....

The Griya itself is lovely hotel, nice grounds. pool and location.
Our booking didn't include Breakfast, but we were offered continental for 65000rp per hd or the buffet for 125000rp per hd and half cost for the kids. we took the al la carte option and most days the bill was around 220000rp.

Meals we had: luch at Massimo was delish as was dinner on the first night at Minami Japanese on the beachfront at the Segara village hotel. However our fave in our brief stay in Sanur was Warung Pergina, Indonesian food. we had lunch there and my wife had a duck dish and me the ayam rica rica, both excellent, we liked it so much so, that we booked in advance the babi guling "special" for the following evening. The meal, once again was superb.

We enjoyed our stay in Sanur, although at this time of the year, the constant sea breeze made the beach not very pleasurable and in fact my wife felt a tad cold walking the boardwalk in the evening. shopping was left wanting...is that because we like the shopping in seminyak so much?, traffic, what traffic!

All in all, a good time had in Sanur.

next stop Gili Trawangan.

Cheers S
