The airport is virtually in the middle of nowhere, and even if you arranged a driver to take you south, to the closer Kuta Lombok area, you would just have time for a quick look around and have to head back to the airport. You really wouldn't give yourself enough time to take in the place and I would suggest you would waste your time. All for about US$60 for your flights. It is such a beautiful place, and has different cultural and scenic places to experience than Bali, do yourself a favour and book at least 2 nights to savour this wonderful island. It was my first trip over and I'm hooked. The people are beautiful and friendly just like the Balinese.
