I've usually found them to have the same rate as booking agents, or even better rates, and always book direct with the hotel wherever I go. I would book accommodation first, as there is a greater chance of plenty of flights available as opposed to the amount of rooms available in your chosen hotel. If you check the airlines and flights available first you should have a good idea that flights are available on the days you need them. A check of the airlines first may also reveal that a different day of the week (to the one you were first thinking of) is actually cheaper.I then book the hotel, and when confirmed, jump straight on and book my flights.
