We used to eat there a bit in the mid 80,s and once they even offered us Turtle!
Gado Gado used to take so long to get to from Bemo corner and the vans used to drive like crazy fast,there wasnt much traffic then(or made roads)
Everyone used to go to poppies for the mushrooms.
Pity i didnt see it as you did because tourism had started up a bit by my first trip but I had a few years break from late 80,s to late 90,s and I couldnt recognize Kuta,well Tuban end anyway when I returned!
I dont miss the sellers grabbing you and having to drag them hundreds of meters before they took NO for an answer!
I prefered it then,but perhaps i am just a lot older lol.
