I know you said no nightclubs etc, but seems everyone has steered totally away from other bars with music that aren't nightclubs.

I would reccomend espresso and apache. There are live bands but its not to stop you having a good pint and a chat as you would in a normal bar in aus / nz / uk whereever you are from.

Its not imposing, but it creates a great atmosphere, you can have a laugh with the staff and other customers or just stick to your own. Both are up jl legian close to the main club area of paddys / bounty / embargo etc. Futher up the road is a good sports bar WW Sports bar, its not stadium standard but its a good crack. Its the old venue of DD Sports Bar mentioned by another poster.

I'm sure they will find some good hangouts, i personally advise them to get away from teh kartika plaza area but others may disagree.
