I don't have any info on day flights home to Melbourne, but just be aware that they can, and often do, change times after you've booked.
We booked flights SYD-DPS-SYD with Virgin a couple of years ago. The price was similar to Jetstar but Virgin had lunchtime departures to come home. Between the time we booked them and the time we went to Bali, they reverted back to being overnight flights again.
