Ona, I too went to Bali for the 1st time in 1983 and stayed at the kuta beach club hotel. dirt roads, dirt bikes, we were only 18 carefree and cant believe it now, but we actually hired a car and drove around. it was a vw thingy with no top.wouldnt be game now. There wasnt a lot of western food except for an american hamburger joint. yes massages on the beach $1, and cassette tapes.
Does anyone remember the cassette shop with the table and chairs glued upside down on the roof. I asked the shop keeper why they were up there, he said thats where he goes when he has magic mushrooms. Oh and the smell of those herbal cigarettes, they smelt like cinnamin or cloves. It took me till 2005 to return with my family and now we havent stopped. it gets in your blood. Another Bali tragic.
