I go two or three times a year and love it. Not everyone's idea of "fun" ..bit of push and shove" but very colourful and a great local insight. Lots to buy...great for fabric and Balinese trimmings. May not be so great at the moment if as Rangatira says it is fenced off and temporary siting. Still a good day. Open each day from early morning. Visit Kings Palace just across the road.
DO take a day trip to Tirtta Gangga...swim in Holy water pool, or just simply chill out for lunch on the Verandah.Ask to inspect their accommodation...very Balinese and inspiring.
You can have the tourist atmosphere of Tanjung or choose wonderful Bali reality in Amed and surrounds.
I will be in at Binya Mulya Orphanage in Amlapura in next few days. 30 kids..all hearing and speech impaired, yet so happy. Many now are receiving hearing aids and beginning to vocalise. Taking 30 Handmade quilts for kids, soccer ball and masses of goodies.

There is also Jerryatrics Orphanage, Yasa Kerti, to visit.. They are another side to real Bali living.
