Thanks to all for kind wishes. Will try to answer all the questions.
Spot on Glenda ...it was Padma Utara heading north in the dark part at 8 pm. Plenty of people around and was forced to step off footpath to go around the beggar woman who always places herself in that position. Was standing still waiting for motor cycle and other pedestrians to get by so I really was a sitting duck.
Bag was gone before I knew it. Could have been cut or just grabbed ..it went so quickly and when I realized it had gone the bike had sped off towards Padma st..
Probably good that it went quickly as I would have put up a fight and could have ended up much worse....like the poor lady in Phuket.
I did suggest to the police that they should move the beggars along to help prevent this situation but all I got was blank looks of course!
As for future security I will continue to do what I have always done...carry the minimum of stuff with me and be extra cautious in dark spots. Everything I lost was replaceable except the photos on the phone
