We usually take some rid with us in a pump action bottle it's got DEET in it which is a must but most of the supermarkets in Bali sell "OFF" which is different to the "OFF" you buy in Australia because theirs has DEET in it. I find that easy to use because you can spray it on.
Best to spray it on regularly, (i.e. after showers, swimming etc ) to ensure you have it on all day. The mozzies that carry the Dengue fever are active in shady spots during the day, in places such as under tables in restaurants and the like.
Got bitten once only and that was first thing in the morning on the balcony when I forgot to spray myself.
