I leave it in the bank

I don't carry AUD$ cash with me to Bali, aside from a couple of hundred dollars as emergency cash - which I've never needed.

I have two visa debit cards attached to my savings account. I keep one in my wallet - one that is used only on holidays and not my day to day card, just in case something does go wrong, I won't have to change everything on automatic payments... and the other stays with my passport in the safe deposit box as a back up option.

I have phone banking set up, which is accessed cheaply using a Bali SIM, so I keep a minimal amount in the main savings account and the rest in a linked account, so I can transfer across as needed. Though generally my weekly pay going into the bank is more than enough spending money. If anyone does get my card, they won't get to spend much before it runs out.

If I need extra cash carried on me while in Bali, it's usually only a day or two's worth, so not a huge amount to worry about. My "Bali wallet" is a velcro dealie that has a zippered compartment in the note section so most of my money goes in there and 'just enough' in the main part that anyone might see when the wallet is open.

I've never had much trouble finding an ATM to use - and my credit union charges no withdrawal fees, so it works for me.
