Everything is going swimmingly...

Last few days cruised around...visited John and Kim (owners of Capt Cook in Jalan Werekudra,Legian) at their home.

Amazing. Everything you would expect and more. They are lucky, they are at the end of a gang with their verandah overlooking their pool which in turn overlooks a rice paddy. High ceilings, lots of wood...and big spacious rooms. The two main bedrooms upstairs both have ensuites.

Great kitchen (I love cooking) but they never cook (apart from the roast meats they cook on the BBQ for the roast beef, pork and gravy rolls they do at the Cook) as the food they get 'outside' is very good and as you would imagine...nowhere near what we would pay.

It was very interesting listening to what they have gone through over the past 4 years since they moved up here. John was a camera man fro Channel 9 in Perth and ran his own production company Cross Point media. He did all the ads for Ravenswood Raceway/Perth Motorplex and the Comin at Ya TV program for many years whch is how I met him.

On the food front 'OK' food (pizza and lumpia) at Utopia's, a sensational meal at YUT's Place in Jalan Werekudra...they had me at the welcome drink and complimentary garlic bread on our arrival!

Great Chinese BBQ at Bloody Sweet on Jalan Legian - the roast pork OMG!!!!!

Nice Lumpia at Mades Warung on Jalan Pantai

But funnily enough the meal I enjoyed the most was the food hall just up from the Hard Rock Cafe (after another session at Jimmys Bar).

The venue is 'rustic and rudimentary' and the touting for your business is fairly full on...but what we had was amazing.

I have been to restaurants where the service was not as good as this place. Whatever we asked for we got...exactly.

We got a shared mei goreng/nasi goreng on the one place. The Nasi was smoky and nice, the mei goreng 'ok', we had friend chicken wings and grilled chicken wings...no more KFC ever! They were that good and for me I love Chinese veg in oyster sauce. It cam out fresh, crispy and just the right amount of sauce...and it too had this smoky flavor too.

I do not think it would be everyones cup of tea...but I wilbe going back!

TJ's in Poppies I and Blue Ocean in Legian are next on our hit list...but they have a tall order to beat a little humble food hall!

Oh, and we were all Bintanged out (as hard as they may seem to be believed!) and were put onto Bali Cider. It is more like a spritzer and served on ice is a great refresher.

And Jimmys has it too...not as good straight out of a stubby - but balanced with great company and a great sunset...you will not hear me complaining.

Catch ya....
