What IS happening is a growing feeling of discontent and helplessness under (apparently) more and more Balinese. Slowly slowly it is occuring to better-educated Balinese that they have lost control over their own economy and future, and, as more and more land is eaten up either by hotels or foreigners looking for retirement homes, their culture as well. There are already a number of "colonies" on other islands, set up by Balinese groups in a conscious effort to re-connect with the land. The above mentioned article is just a reflection of that discontent. What can be done? I personally don't see any way out anymore, but it is not my job to search for solutions.
