Hi i have been looking into volunteering & donating goods to orphanages here is a copy of what i found out.

Hi Brent,

I am going to Bali in May and I am keen to help out at an orphanage.
I read this article http://www.baliadvertiser.biz/articles/greenspeak/2010/orphanage.html
Now I am worry anything I do or donate is not going to the right place. I was hoping you could help me with some feedback on the Bali Volunteer House http://www.balivolunteerhouse.com/involved.html
I was going to do the second option and go on a bus trip with them and buy the groceries.
I just wanted to know if you have heard of them and if they are legitimate?
Also do you except clothing donations?

Thank you so much for your time

regards

Jo

Dear Jo,

Hi!

Firstly I have never heard of this organisation. You must check out the organisation first.

1/ They mention having a fundraiser in NSW however I cannot find them registered as a charity in NSW

2/ A lady is mentioned in WA but there is no charity registered in WA

(You cannot collect money without a charity licence. Maybe they have a licence in another state but this means

they can only collect donations in the State they are licenced)

3/ Volunteers should obtain a Social Visa before coming to Bali and cannot volunteer on a Tourist Visa

4/ Volunteers should have a working with children card or current Police Clearance (less than six months) to comply with Child Protection policies.

5/ A screening process should be in place for all volunteers and references checked.

I suggest you contact them if you are interested. Find out where they are licenced. Are they a licenced charity in Australia or Indonesia? If licenced

in Australia in which state and what is their licence number. What are their screening requirements? Do they assist you to obtain the correct visa?

If they are operating and collecting funds in Australia without a licence then the Charity Licencing Dept should be informed.

They may be all above board, audited and transparent. Just make sure!

Currently we have ample clothing but thank you!

Hope this helps.

Kind regards

Brent
