I was a bit hesitant to stay there because there were a few ordinary reviews on Trip Advisor for Bakungsari, but I'm really not sure what the problems were. Maybe it's down to expectations. For the price, I didn't expect much and was pleasantly surprised.

The room is a bit older, sure, but it was good value for the price paid and was clean. Comfy big bed, pillows not so much, but I find pillows in nearly all Bali hotels to be flat and like bricks. I just buy a softer one from one of the dept stores and leave it behind. TV with mostly local channels but one for news and one for movies was enough. Bar fridge, air con. Shower was over the floor but that's no big deal, just takes a bit of practice to not get the toilet and everything else wet, lol.

I had a fresh towel delivered by early afternoon nearly every day. I think the latest it ever arrived was around 5pm but sometimes was there by lunchtime. They only left one towel as I was solo in the room, but I kept the 2nd towel from the day I arrived so had an extra if I needed it. The day that I did use the 2nd towel, they left me two new replacements.

Breaky was sufficient, but more could be ordered for reasonable prices - think I heard someone being charged Rp10K for a pancake one morning.

The pool looked nice, but I didn't use it. I'm not much of a swimmer and it has to be pretty hot for me to get in for a splash - even then I'd usually just prefer a cool shower. The mood just didn't take me to have a swim this time around.

The standard rooms have mostly all been renovated and are, apparently, very nice - but I much prefer to have a veranda/balcony to sit on to read or just relax and don't mind an older room anyway.

Never a problem in 18 nights I stayed there. I usually stay in Legian and pay a bit more per night, but this was a cheap 'in between' airfare I'd picked up. I was just in Bali in August and going back again this October, so decided to stay cheap and in a different area for more of a 'laze about and relax' trip, and quite liked it for the change. I'd happily stay again.
